Finding Rest in God
We live in a world that glorifies being busy. Deadlines, responsibilities, and constant notifications can leave us feeling drained and anxious. But God invites us into something better—true rest. Finding rest in God isn’t just about sleeping more; it’s about finding peace for your soul in Him.
The Weight of the World:
Let me tell you a story. A few months ago, I found myself in a spiral of exhaustion. I hit a wall between school and work, starting this ministry and trying to help others who needed me. One night, I sat on my couch, overwhelmed, and whispered, “God, I can’t do this anymore.” I was crying, tired, and ready to give up. I felt as though no matter how hard I worked, I never felt accomplished. Spreading myself so thin and trying to do everything on my own had me running on empty.
In that still moment, a verse came to mind: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). It felt like Jesus was speaking directly to my heart. I realized I’d been carrying burdens I was never meant to carry.
That night, I chose to release my worries to Him. It wasn’t easy—I’m a fixer by nature, always trying to solve problems on my own. But as I surrendered, peace began to replace my anxiety. God is here for every one of us. He wants us to rely on Him and His strength. You may have so much on your plate, causing you stress and worry. Friend, you are not alone! Allow God to help you, hold you, and carry you through.
Practical Steps to Rest in God:
- Pause and Pray: When life feels overwhelming, stop and pray. Even a few minutes can realign your heart with God’s peace.
- Prioritize Sabbath Rest: Dedicate one day a week to rest, worship, and enjoy God’s presence.
- Let Go of Control: Write down what’s weighing on you and surrender it to God in prayer.
- Meditate on Scripture: Focus on verses about God’s peace and faithfulness. Let His Word renew your mind.
Prayer for Rest:
Lord, I’m tired. I’ve been trying to carry more than I was meant to, and it’s left me feeling empty. Today, I surrender my burdens to You. Teach me to rest in Your presence and trust Your plans. Fill me with Your peace and remind me that You’re always in control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection and Action Steps:
- Reflect: What burdens are you carrying right now that you need to surrender to God?
- Act: This week, schedule intentional quiet time with God—whether it’s five minutes or an hour—and focus on His promises.
