God Sees the Mess and Still Chooses You

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
—1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV)

I’ll be honest—lately, I’ve been feeling like a mess. Like I’m trying to hold everything together with a smile and a prayer. There are moments I allow the enemy’s lies to blind me to God’s truth. In my darkest moments, I’m reminded of my failures, regrets, and all the reasons that disqualify me from encouraging my sisters in Christ.

There are days that I look around at my life and wonder, “God, are You sure You chose the right one?”

My to-do list has become a procrastination list, bills are piling up, and doubts and fears live rent free in my mind. I keep thinking, “If I were stronger, bolder, more organized, more disciplined, more confident… THEN maybe I’d be worthy of being used by You.”

But this morning, in the stillness before the world got loud, the Lord reminded me of something simple: He already knew the mess—and still said ‘yes.’

God didn’t wait for David to become king before He anointed him. He chose him as a shepherd boy, overlooked by his own family. There will be people in our lives who will doubt us. Family, friends, and strangers will have their opinions but thank God that our worth is found in Christ alone.

Like David, God saw something in him that no one else could see. And God sees something in you, too.

Friend, maybe you have felt God directing you down a new path. Calling you to step out of your comfort zone and do something you’ve never done before. But you don’t feel qualified, good enough, or ready, right? Like me, your failures, fears, or flaws may enter your thoughts whenever you get the confidence to step out on faith.

The enemy will always try to point out your weaknesses. He wants you to disqualify yourself before you even begin. But God looks deeper. He sees your heart, your hunger, and your willingness to say “yes” even when you’re unsure. God knows the mistakes you’ve made. He knows the struggles you face. God sees the mess and still chooses YOU.

You don’t have to be perfect to be chosen. You just have to be available.

So today, even in the middle of the mess, I’m choosing to believe that God is still writing a beautiful story with my life—and yours too. Instead of allowing the enemy’s no’s to hinder us, let’s surrender to God with our yes. Remember that God sees the mess and He still chooses you.

Reflection Question:
What’s one area where you’ve been feeling “not enough”? Can you surrender that to God today and let Him work through it?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for choosing me even in my weakness. Help me stop disqualifying myself and start walking boldly in Your calling. I give You every messy, unfinished piece of my life—use it for Your glory. You’ve chosen me for a reason, though I may not know why, but I know that it is for my good. So, I want to say yes! Yes to Your will and Yes to your way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
